API 650 Storage Tank Fabrication and assembly.

Another coordination problem — and how I solved it, tank after tank.

01 · Objective

Build API 650 storage tanks the operator can sign off — every time and ASME pressure vessels.

Execution support for API 650 storage tank construction projects (5,000–200,000 barrels) for major Oil & Gas clients, ensuring compliance with API, ASME and project technical standards from fabrication through field execution.

02 · How it started

More storage. Same standard. Full traceability.

Demand

Major operators needed additional storage capacity built fast.

Bar

Every weld, every plate, traceable to API and ASME.

Reality

Multiple concurrent tank builds across sites and clients.

Plan

Standardize ITPs and inspection cadence across the program.

04 · Team & my role

Project Engineer / QA/QC — anchored to the standard.

Coordinated inspection and testing activities, developed and implemented ITPs, and collaborated with engineering and construction teams across multiple concurrent tank builds.

05 · Process

Repeatable rigor across every tank in the program.

  1. 01

Develop and implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and technical procedures aligned with API 650 and ASME.

  2. 02

Coordinate inspection and testing activities — PT, MT, VT, UT, RT — across fabrication and field.

  3. 03

Monitor progress and identify non-conformities tank by tank.

  4. 04

Implement corrective actions to maintain schedule and quality performance.

  5. 05

Close out per-tank dossiers and hand over inspection-ready assets.

06 · Decision-making

Anchor every call to API/ASME and traceability.

Signal

Field inspections and NDT records flagged deviations early in the build.

Action

Triggered corrective actions before non-conformities became rework.

Trade-off

Held the line on standard compliance even under schedule pressure.

Outcome

Predictable handover to operations — tank after tank.
